7/3/26 – Game #13: Embers beneath the ash…

  • After leaving Thulanda, your journey north brought you to Sunward Crossroads, where refugees told of a brutal massacre in the nearby village of Alderhearth, supposedly carried out by Zamashuri soldiers.
  • Investigating the village, you discovered that its dead had mysteriously risen through powerful necromancy. With Grayson’s connection to Mortivara, you helped the restless souls find peace.
  • Following the attackers’ trail to an abandoned watchtower, you uncovered the truth: the soldiers were actually Asher cultists disguised as military patrols, deliberately provoking conflict between Rhomarion and Zamashur. A fierce battle followed, during which the cultists summoned a terrifying chain devil from some sort of infernal portal.
  • You defeated the cultists, thwarted their infernal plot, and returned to Sunward Crossroads with evidence of the conspiracy.
  • Now, with that threat behind you, your journey north resumes toward Nesathar, the magnificent fortress-city of Teshubarnash, and ultimately the Sunsteel Convergence in Mirzaban.

Here’s a small map of the area where the party is currently operating:

As we approach the village, I can feel it. The Spirits bid me to ready myself for what has or will occur. Something is not right.

It is still worse than I could imagine and something I will never unsee. The bodies are strewn everywhere. It does not look like anyone is alive…until we see the little girl. She is crying and is asking where her mother is. My first thought is to get her out of this place, but the Spirits warn me just as she begins to change and the what the villagers have become start to stir. After a short battle, Grayson helps to put the villagers to rest. This was a trap….We spend some time burying the bodies. I desire peace…but those who did this deserve NONE and must be stopped. I do not think I have EVER been this angry.

We then find a trail and follow it. We find a guard and follow him back to a barn where the rest of his patrol is. We notice movement upstairs in the barn and the guard shows what he really is, an Asher cultist. They were trying to make it appear that one kingdom was murdering the citizens of this kingdom. We quickly defeat the cultists, but find they have already summoned a devil with large spiked chains, which it attacks us with. We manage to defeat it and send it back. Wherever I find those who are of this Asher cult, I will stop them…whatever it takes.

I was never as good at the game of politics as my sister. I understand the purpose of the senseless killing of an entire village to start a war but I don’t understand how the cost benefit analysis balances. Perhaps it is only justified to those who are evil. And to bring a child back as something….other is just not right.

The summoner got away from us… but… he will pay.

What is happening? Ilyndra Noctis is…was…the CHOSEN of Mortivara? How could history be so scewed? I saw her, walking among the dead. Trying to…help them. Lady of Peace! She saw me and suggested…the impossible. I am simply a halfling. A believer. A musician. A scoudral. What could possibly be happening? Is the Frost Lord’s threat so dire that we are on the brink of experiencing another War of Eternal Twighlight?

My Dark Lady, who’s secrets both bring fear and peace
Who holds darkness like a blanket throughout the night
Grant those sould held captive release
Grant us all, the will to fight

I await your will My Lady. I hope for your knowledge My Lady. I do your bidding My Lady.

Who would be foolish enough to practice necromancy? Do they not know the cost of commuting with the dead? Do they not comprehend what a burden the dead are? How corrupted by the grave? How absolutely appalling they are to talk to? Just their prattling on about how things were when they were alive. I cannot believe anyone would know how more of a bore the dead are and still practice necromancy.

    Tatiana
Imagine Xander thinking someone is a bore. How cute. I do wish the living would leave us dead alone though. They tell us to rest in peace and then use magic to call us back whenever the mood strikes them. I was perfectly fine being dead thank you very much.

So… I woke up frozen in ice. Not the best but not the worst. Luckily Kragg was kind enough to teleport and smash the chains so we could kill the Cultist that entrapped me.

From there Socrates was made Ambassador for our nation. This should be fun!

We traveled north and found a decimated village. We located the offenders and were able to get revenge for those people.
